What is the clitoris? Where is it found?
Saba® - Freedom to feel comfortable.
The clitoris is famous for being the only organ whose function is pleasure. It's time you familiarize yourself with it; we are here to provide all the necessary information.
Sadly, many things that have been said about the clitoris are myths and half-truths. Since it is an organ dedicated to pleasure, its research has been surrounded by taboos. It was not until 1998 that Australian urologist Helen O'Connell discovered the complete anatomy of the clitoris.
So… what’s the clitoris, and what’s it for?
The clitoris is the female counterpart to the penis because they are both made up of similar tissues, making them homologous organs. However, they serve different functions. The penis has a role in reproduction, and the clitoris is solely dedicated to experiencing pleasure and achieving female orgasm.
Parts of the clitoris: what we can’t see
The clitoris is far more intricate than it seems. While only the glans are visible externally at the vulva, the clitoris can measure up to 11 centimeters in length. It consists of spongy and erectile tissue and contains approximately 10,000 nerve endings.
Anatomically, the clitoris is divided into:
- Clitoral glans
- Prepuce of the clitoris or hood
- Clitoral body
- Pairs of pillars, known as paired bodies or crura
- Vestibular bulbs

Where is the clitoris?
Let's bust a big myth about the clitoris: finding it isn't as tough as people make it out to be! Everyone's body is unique, and the clitoris can be a bit hidden because of its sensitive nature and the shyness surrounding it. But guess what? We're going to help you find it!
The visible part of the clitoris is called the glans—it's like a tiny pea located above the urethra. Sometimes, people mix up the glans with the whole clitoris, forgetting the parts you can't see. This sensitive spot is tucked under a covering called the clitoral hood, right where the inner lips of the vulva meet.
So, to find your clitoris, just peek above the urethra and where the inner lips meet.
Remember, everyone's body is different, including their clitoris! The coolest way to understand your body better is to explore it. And hey, the clitoris is super important, so let's get rid of those taboos and get to know it better!
