Myths and Facts About Fertility
Saba® makes you feel #CómodaContigo.
Fertility is one of the functions of the human body that a lot of women are concerned about.
Either because they are not interested in having children (at a particular moment) and want to be 100% sure that they are using the ideal contraceptive method to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. OR because they are trying for a baby and want to know the days with the highest probability of becoming pregnant.
And because fertility is such an important subject to so many, there are many myths surrounding it. Let’s sort through some myths and facts about fertility:
Myth: Most women get pregnant easily.
Pregnancy is a natural process, but that doesn’t mean it always comes easily. Since we are all different, women have varying levels of ease or difficulty getting pregnant.
Myth: A 40-year-old woman can get pregnant without problems.
The reality is that age does affect your fertility, and the older you are, the less likely you are to get pregnant with ease. The chance of getting pregnant at 40 years old is about 5%. So, for many women, it is extremely difficult to get pregnant without help from a doctor.
Myth: Your eggs won't age if you’ve led a healthy life.
Although having a healthy lifestyle has many benefits for us, the reality is that it has nothing to do with physiological aging, and this includes your ovaries. Therefore, a healthy lifestyle does not = young and healthy eggs.
Myth: Birth control pills cause infertility.
One of the most common myths about fertility is that long-term use of hormonal contraceptives causes infertility, but this is totally false. Once you go off birth control, your menstrual cycle and ovulation return to normal, so don't worry! You can continue to use them with confidence.
Fact: Alcohol and drugs affect fertility.
Overconsumption of alcohol and/or drug use affect the regularity of menstrual cycles, can cause an absence of ovulation, and increase the probability of miscarriages. Because these substances have a negative effect on hormone production.
Fact: Your weight and diet can affect your chances of getting pregnant.
Very very true! Being underweight or overweight can influence women’s fertility. Since your weight usually affects hormone production, your menstrual cycles may become irregular if your weight is under or over what is recommended by your doctor.
If you are concerned about your fertility, or are having difficulty getting pregnant, make an appointment with your doctor.
