Saba® - Freedom to feel comfortable.

Have you noticed that your boyfriend, brother, or best friend sometimes has strange mood swings?

If it was one of your girlfriends, you'd probably think it's because she's on her period, but do men then also have something similar to menstruation? 🤔 Read on!

It may surprise you, but men have something similar to a menstrual cycle known as the male hormonal cycle. We will tell you about the male hormonal cycle so you can spot it.

What is testosterone?

Testosterone is the hormone produced by the testicles that is mainly responsible for sexual and reproductive function, the development of muscle mass, the growth of pubic hair, and the change to a deeper tone of voice.

Testosterone goes through different phases that influence mood and physical state. Low testosterone levels can produce symptoms such as sleep disturbances, irritation, depression, and altered sexual appetite and erections.

Although testosterone is mainly a male hormone, women also produce it, but in lesser quantities.

Types of male hormonal cycles

Having more or less testosterone directly affects physical and mental health. It is still being studied,  but there is a classification of types of male hormonal cycles according to the production peaks and the frequency in which they occur. Let’s identify these cycles:

Extra-short: Also called Testosterone Minute Syndrome (TMS), this cycle consists of hormonal disturbances that last about 20 minutes. It is estimated that men can have these spikes up to 6 or 7 times in one day.

Daily: This is a cycle that lasts a whole day. In the morning, the testosterone level is very high and drops as the day goes on. When men wake up, they have between 800 and 1,000 mg of testosterone. In the afternoon, they have about 400 mg.

Monthly: 60% of men have 8 to 30 days cycles. During these days, they have peaks of high testosterone production. However, unlike the menstrual cycle, this is not linked to reproduction.

Annual: Testosterone increases in Autumn 🍂 Surprise!

Vital: The first time testosterone appears in the placenta is when the genitals develop. It is not until old age that the production of this hormone stabilizes and begins to decline.

So next time you meet your boyfriend and don't understand his behavior, hug him and tell him that no one understands him better than you 😉💗.
