Perimenopause is the natural transition stage towards menopause. All women go through this process, and we all experience it in different ways and at various ages. Perimenopause can appear five years before menopause appears, which is usually at the age of 51.

Perimenopause is a topic that all women should know about because it is something we will go through sooner or later.  It is part of our nature. Read on and learn more about its symptoms.

1.- Hot flashes

This symptom is common in premenopause. Hot flashes appear in different forms and intensities depending on each woman. When it occurs at night, it can cause night sweats.

2.- Irregular periods

This symptom alters your menstruation, and it may come earlier than planned or much later. You can have a very heavy period and another very light, or your menstruation may not come at all in that month.

3.- Decrease in fertility

As your period becomes irregular, your fertility also decreases.  Although your menstruation appears less frequently, you want to avoid a surprise pregnancy by using contraceptive methods.

4.- Mood swings

This symptom can be related to hot flashes since they are uncomfortably frequent and alter your mood. Irritability or a low mood is common.

Other symptoms that may appear are decreased libido, bladder problems, etc. All these changes occur due to the alteration of estrogen and progesterone. Remember to go to the doctor if these symptoms are extreme. We also want you to know that perimenopause is natural. Discover how to be more comfortable, even with hot flashes.
